Vans Rv-14 Armrest with Storage and Cupholders

When flying, you need to keep things like an iPad, notepad, pens, sunglasses, and your phone within reach. Usually, they end up between the seats, moving around during the flight and never within easy reach. We tried to find a Vans RV armrest, but none had enough space for an iPad, which we really needed. So, I decided to use my engineering skills to design a Vans RV armrest that looks good and uses the space efficiently.

After about 10 months of design iterations and testing, we came up with this product, which we’re really happy with.

Key Features

  • Custom Design: The Vans RV armrest is engineered to fit the exact size and screw holes of the Vans RV-14, providing a perfect fit and finish that complements the aircraft’s interior.

  • Storage Space: Enough space to fit a large iPad and other essentials required in the cockpit.

  • Side Hinge Mechanism: The unique side hinge design ensures the lid is sturdy and secure when opening and closing. It’s held closed with a magnet to prevent accidental opening during steep maneuvers.

  • Dual Accessibility: The Vans RV armrest is wide enough for both the pilot and co-pilot to use. The side hinge mechanism makes it easy for both to access the storage space.
  • Easy Installation: Installing your new Vans RV armrest takes only 15-20 minutes. Unscrew the 14 screws holding the floor panel between the seats. Place the armrest and secure it using 8 of the screws you just removed. Place the Vans RV cupholders and secure it with the remaining 6 screws.
  • Enhanced Comfort and Utility: The Vans RV armrest provides support for the right elbow at the same height as the fuselage armrest. It’s also convenient for operating the throttle controls while resting your elbow on the armrest.

  • In-flight Beverage Service: The two Vans RV cupholders are conveniently placed and large enough to fit a Stanley mug (although there’s no restroom on this aircraft, so maybe avoid that). The cupholder is also great for holding your phone during the flight.

  • USB Charging Port: The Vans RV armrest with cupholder is designed with a hole for repositioning the USB charger to be accessed from inside the armrest. There’s also a hole on the pilot side for wires to pass through without having to keep the armrest open.
  • Colors: We’ve experimented with a black finish, but the material can be painted or wrapped as desired. We’d love to see pictures of your custom designs!

Warning: People tend to use the Vans RV armrest to prop themselves up when getting in and out of the aircraft. The armrest is made of tough ABS plastic but isn’t strong enough to handle heavy weight. Please tell passengers to use the crossbar behind the seats for support when getting in and out. This is an experimental product, and the aircraft owner is responsible for ensuring the product’s proper installation and the aircraft’s airworthiness and flight safety.
